| Dan Berkowitz is the
Los Angeles Regional Rep of The Dramatists Guild
of America, the professional association of playwrights,
composers, and lyricists; and Co-Chair of The Alliance
of Los Angeles Playwrights. His writing for the
stage has been produced off-Broadway, in major regional
theatres, and in college and amateur theatres in
more than 40 of the United States, and in Canada.

My Name Is Still Alice (co-author),
a musical revue which began at the Old Globe Theatre
in San Diego, moved to Second Stage in New York,
and has since been produced at major regional theatres,
as well as community and college theatres around
the United States and Canada; Miami
Beach Monsters (co-author), a musical
which ran for four months at New York’s Triad
Theatre; There’s No Place Like
Hollywood (co-author), nominated for
the Theatre LA Ovation Award for Best Musical; Skirting
the Issues (co-author), a revue for
The Women’s Project and Productions in New
York; Tables for Two (co-author),
a revue produced at the Art Barge in Amagansett
and the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center,
both in New York; Simply Divine
(author), a comedy produced at the Source Theater
in Washington, D.C.; and others. His one-man show,
Crime and Punishment: The Musical
will premiere at the One Man Talking Festival in
New York in May.
Beyond the stage, Dan spent a year as Senior Story
Analyst for RHI Entertainment, a division of Hallmark,
headed by Robert Halmi, Sr., producer of Lonesome
Dove, Scarlett,
The Odyssey, and Tin
Man, among many other films. Before
that, as principal scriptwriter for The Movie Channel’s
hosted format, Dan put words in the mouths of on-air
hosts Robert Osborne and Michele Russell, as well
as dozens of "guest hosts" including James
Earl Jones, Christopher Reeve, Joan Fontaine, and
Little Richard. Dan is the author of four optioned
screenplays.
In addition to writing, Dan has produced and/or
directed, scores of plays, musicals, and cabaret
revues, as well as several seasons of syndicated
television programming, and a raft of commercials
and industrial and educational videos. He has gained
a reputation on both coasts, not only for his artistic
vision, but also for his organizational skills and
budgetary prowess.
